Brief content

In November 2019, measurements of concentrations of selected harmful substances and meteorological parameters were carried out in Brno in the locations of Koliště and Poříčí. The measurements were primarily focused on analyzing the relationship between traffic and air quality, focusing on concentrations of PM10, PM2.5, benzo[a]pyrene and NO2.

The locations were selected with regard to traffic load. At the same time, it was taken into account, where possible, that the locations at least partially differ in terms of traffic flow, especially during peak hours.

All measured pollutants are also affected by meteorological conditions. In general, it can be summarized that higher concentrations are measured at low wind speeds or even no wind (poor dispersion of pollutants), at low temperatures (added by the influence of local heating plants) and higher relative air humidity. This is also one of the reasons why the campaign was located in November. This is one of the three months when the concentrations of measured pollutants are highest and the results in terms of load represent roughly the worst that can be measured in a given location.
