Analysis of the microstructure of materials with a scanning electron microscope and an EDX analyzer - application to cement concrete
Analysis of the microstructure of materials with a scanning electron microscope and an EDX analyzer - application to cement concrete
The methodology describes the use of a combination of a scanning electron microscope (SEM - Scanning Electron Microscopy) and an energy-dispersive X-ray analyzer (EDX - Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy) in the analysis of the microstructure and degradation processes of materials used in transport infrastructure, especially concrete.
The aim of the methodology is:
- specify the general procedure for performing analyzes of samples of inorganic materials using a combination of SEM/EDX,
- establish a specific procedure for SEM/EDX analyzes on samples of cement concrete taken from transport structures, especially road surfaces,
- present a sample example of such analysis with evaluation.
This methodology was developed with the state support of the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic as part of the Center of Competence program, CESTI project (TE01020168: Center for efficient and sustainable transport infrastructure, working group WP6: Safety, reliability and diagnostics of structures).
