The methodology describes how to proceed when using a combination of two non-destructive diagnostic devices - a FWD impact device (for evaluating the bearing capacity of roadways) and a GPR georadar (for determining the thickness of structural layers, to identify inhomogeneities, hidden defects and faults) during the diagnostic survey of roadways. It draws attention to the benefits that result from the processing of data measured by both devices and their use in the creation of homogeneous sections, which serve as a basis for planning maintenance, repairs and reconstruction of roadways.

The aim of the methodology is to state:

  • principles for applying a combination of FWD impact device and ground-penetrating radar,
  • procedure when using a combination of these two non-destructive diagnostic methods,
  • specifying the procedure for creating homogeneous sections,
  • specific examples where a combination of these devices is used.

This methodology was developed with the state support of the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic as part of the Center of Competence program, CESTI project (TE01020168: Center for efficient and sustainable transport infrastructure, working group WP6: Safety, reliability and diagnosis of structures).
