The methodology describes how to proceed when using a combination of two non-destructive diagnostic devices - the FWD impact device (for assessing the bearing capacity of pavements) and the GPR ground-penetrating radar (for determining the thickness of structural layers, for identifying inhomogeneities, hidden defects and failures) in the diagnostic survey of road pavements. It draws attention to the benefits that arise from processing data measured by both devices and their use in creating homogeneous sections, which serve as a basis for planning maintenance, repairs and reconstruction of pavements.

The aim of the methodology is to state:

  • principles for applying the combination of FWD impact device and GPR,
  • the procedure for using a combination of these two non-destructive diagnostic methods,
  • clarification of the procedure for creating homogeneous sections,
  • specific examples where a combination of these devices is used.
