Methodology for increasing the self-explanatory nature of roads by means of optimization of directional design elements
Methodology for increasing the self-explanatory nature of roads by means of optimization of directional design elements
The methodology provides guidance and tools for practical evaluation and subsequent improvement of the self-explanatory nature of roads. For this, the concept of speed consistency (speed differences between straight sections and following directional arcs) and optimization derived from it (using traffic signs or changes in directional lines) was used.
The authors collected data, developed an assessment methodology and applied it to extra-urban sections of Class I roads. The methodology describes all steps of the solution; the addition is a printed and interactive map of the most critical directional arcs. In the future, the procedure presented in the methodology will be able to be adapted to extra-villa communications of lower classes.
