Synthetic fuels for transport
Synthetic fuels for transport
The book deals with synthetic fuels made on the basis of hydrogen, which have the greatest application potential in transport - methane, methanol, ammonia and liquid hydrocarbon fuels (e-fuels, FT fuels). Among other things, readers will be introduced to the basic chemical-physical principles/properties and the most widely used available production technologies. Separate chapters are also devoted to the assessment of infrastructure requirements for fuel distribution and long-term hydrogen storage.
The book also focuses significantly on the assessment of possible applications of synthetic fuels in transport (separately for internal combustion engines and for fuel cells in electric vehicles). For each fuel, the efficiency of energy use is presented, from production through distribution to its use to drive vehicles. As the production of synthetic fuels that use renewable hydrogen as feedstock is a relatively new topic, examples of planned or already installed production capacities are also presented in the book.

"The professional publication provides a comprehensive and comprehensible view of the production and use of renewable fuels of non-biological origin. These fuels have significant potential to contribute to the decarbonisation of transport, especially in areas where the transition to electricity or hydrogen is quite complicated. The publication clearly presents the possibilities for the production of synthetic methane, methanol, ammonia and other liquid hydrocarbon fuels, which are produced by the chemical synthesis of renewable hydrogen and carbon dioxide. At the same time, the publication provides information on the planned commercial production capacities and dates for putting these devices into operation." (J. Hromádko)
“I really liked the book, it summarizes very nicely the current state and the likely development in the next few years in the area of synthetic fuels and technologies at high TRL. It will certainly find a number of readers for whom it will serve as an introduction to the issue. For me personally, the greatest benefit of the book is the precisely tracked and processed data to assess the effectiveness of individual production procedures / fuels, which, in my opinion, adds the element of novelty and relevance to the book."
