Use of blast furnace slag to increase the durability of CB road covers
Use of blast furnace slag to increase the durability of CB road covers
The methodology describes how to proceed when using ground granulated blast furnace slag (hereinafter referred to as slag) in concrete during the construction of transport infrastructure objects, with a focus on use in concrete for cement-concrete covers of highways and Class I roads. Slag can enter as a component of cement (CEM II/AS and CEM II/BS) or as an active admixture in the production of concrete. The methodology describes the replacement of Portland clinker with slag up to 35% by weight. concrete mixes. Experiences from the implementation of the test section on the D1 highway in 2018 and 2019, where the procedures specified in this methodology were applied, are described.
The methodology follows the work of the working group of the Directorate of Roads and Highways of the Czech Republic for the verification of the service life of cement-concrete road covers and is based on the results of projects that have been devoted to this topic in recent years, in particular ISPROFIN No. 5001150001: Verification of a new concrete formula for CBK (ŘSD); TH03020404: Life extension of cement-concrete covers using mineral admixtures and mixed cements (TAČR); LO1610: Transport R&D center (MŠMT).
