Screening assessment of environmental risks in the selection of road routes The methodology deals with the early determination of potential environmental risks of new road variants, at the very beginning of investment preparation. Using a formalized procedure in GIS, a series of background maps suitable for the design of various route variants by the designer and a set of indicators for evaluating their acceptability in terms of environmental impacts are designed. The assessment is based on environmental legislation, the specific local situation and a comparison in the wider context of the Czech Republic. To this end, two series of indicators were developed, which allow the construction to be assessed in the context of (a) types of territory in the Czech Republic and (b) other analogous road constructions. The methodology can be used both during the initial selection in the screening phase and as part of the assessment in the EIA process. The target group is workers involved in assessing the impact of road constructions on the environment, road designers and investors, spatial planning workers, state administration officials and other participants in the preparation process. This methodology was created with the state support of the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic within the Competence Center Program, project TE01020168 Center for Efficient and Sustainable Transport Infrastructure (CESTI).
